Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad should be allowed to formally present the military with the opposition14th general elections manifesto, PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad (above) said today.

He said this was in line with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak advice that members of the armed forces and police elect a stable government post-GE14.

"To be fair, the armed forces should allow Dr Mahathir Mohamad to meet with them at the Defence Ministry and allow him to explain Pakatan Harapan's offer for the military," said Nik Nazmi in a statement.

He was responding to Najib's reported speech at a dinner for the armed forces and police where he said that a “Malaysian Malaysia” might spell the end of the Royal Malay Regiment if the wrong leadership took control of the country.

Nik Nazmi also noted how Armed Forces Chief Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor (below) had told the same dinner gathering that Najib had always paid special attention to the security forces and that they should be grateful and loyal in turn.

"Loyalty of the uniformed forces is to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and not to politicians.

"Supporting the policies and directives of the government of the day is not tantamount to blind loyalty to the ruling party but must be to support the people's aspirations in a democracy," he stressed.

"Therefore the call to be loyal to Najib is very strange.

"By right, the chief of the armed forces should urge the troops to repeat their pledge of allegiance to the Yang di Pertuan Agong," said the Seri Setia assemblyperson.

Mahathir had on Tuesday chided Raja Mohamed Affandi's call for loyalty to Najib saying the prime minister now effectively had his own private army.
