Chen Man Hin, who is one of DAP's founders, has expressed disagreement with the decision not to use the party's iconic rocket logo for the coming general election.

"I feel discouraged, we have been using the logo in our struggle. The rocket represents DAP's position," he told Sin Chew Daily.

The former five-term Seremban MP admitted that he was surprised by the decision not to use the rocket in Peninsular Malaysia.

Chen said he had attempted to contact DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to discuss the matter but was unable to speak to the latter.

"I do not understand why the DAP central executive committee (CEC) made the decision. Instead of calling this a sacrifice, why not call it a strategy?” he added.

Chen also warned that DAP's older supporters might become confused during the election if the party's candidates contested under a different logo.

The former MP said he would not interfere in the party's affairs but has put forth his views in an email to both Kit Siang and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Previously, Malaysiakini reported that Pakatan Harapan might be using the PKR logo in the coming general election.

The opposition coalition's chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to unveil the common logo during an event in Pasir Gudang, Johor, tonight.

A straw poll conducted by Malaysiakini in Kuala Lumpur also discovered that many DAP supporters could not recognise the PKR logo.

DAP has been using the rocket logo since it first contested in the general election in 1969.
