The police are investigating netizens who have allegedly insulted Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

Johor police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said police have received a number of reports on this but declined to state how many.

"We have received reports (on comments against the crown prince) and investigations are underway, that is all I can say at this point," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

The report does not state what the investigation is related to, but it comes after a raging debate on social media triggered by Tunku Ismail's comments weighing in on the 14th general election.

On April 7, the crown prince had said that there was no need to change a ship's engine because of a problematic skipper, while launching a thinly veiled attack on Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He has clarified that his comments on were only his personal opinion and that he did not side with either BN chairperson Najib Abdul Razak or Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He added that people are entitled to their opinions and who they wish to support but claimed that the majority who had voiced out were outsiders.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khalil said netizens should mind their manners when commenting on social media, which were regulated under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
