The ‘Saya Anak Mara’ assembly to be held this Sunday will provide an opportunity for former students of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) educational institutions to get up close and personal with caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Themed ‘Menggenggam Langit Biru’, the assembly, organised by the Badan Permuafakatan Pendidikan Mara Malaysia (Muafakat), will see one of the largest gatherings between the country’s number one leader and Mara’s former students.

Muafakat president Rizal Mansor said the objectives of the assembly, among others, are to see the successful former Mara students coming together to showcase the agency’s contributions, as well as to encourage and strengthen the agency, in line with the current changes.

“Hence, we chose the ‘Menggenggam Langit Biru’ because we want to see Mara produce more experts in aerospace,” he said when contacted by Bernama in Kuala Lumpur today.

Rizal, who is also the special officer to the prime minister, said that for decades Mara has contributed and assisted hugely in the field of education that indirectly helped Mara students to succeed in their respective careers.

About 5,000 participants are expected to attend the assembly, to be held at the Universiti Kuala Lumpur-Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology’s Subang Campus from 3pm to 6pm.

The event is open to all Mara former students, including members of Muafakat, Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Old Students Association (Ansara), educators, employees, entrepreneurs as well as parents of Mara-sponsored students.

Mara, an agency under the purview of the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, was established on March 1, 1966, as a statutory body by an Act of Parliament as a result of the first Bumiputera Economic Congress resolution in 1965.

The purpose of its establishment, among others, is to develop successful and innovative entrepreneurs, creating global human capital with integrity, contributing to equity ownership and facilitating delivery systems.
