GE14 | Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak today cautioned the Malays and bumiputera against triggering a Malay tsunami in upcoming 14th general elections as their interests have always been protected by Umno and BN.

He also claimed that the opposition parties are out to dismantle Malay-bumiputera institutions that go against the "Malaysian Malaysia" agenda once championed by the DAP.

"That is why it is very important for us to ensure that the Malay tsunami will not happen in GE14.

"That (triggering a Malay tsunami) is supposedly what they (Pakatan Harapan) are trying to do," said Najib in his speech at a gathering of some 5,000 Mara students and alumni at the Mara-Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (MIAT) hangar in Subang Jaya today.

He also reminded them that the future of many Malays and bumiputera has changed drastically because of Mara's contribution.

As such, he urged for continuous support towards Umno and not to listen to others who often find fault with the government.

"As long as Umno is in power, Mara will continue to exist. That is because the fight for Mara was in line with my late father's struggle and I will continue his work," said Najib.

Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad had repeatedly warned BN that a Malay tsunami is set to happen in GE14 after an initial large turnout at a ceramah in Kedah last month. 

At the time, Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong claimed the turnout could be as high as 15,000 people and signalled an impending shift in the political landscape. 

Najib, however, dismissed the warning and said that a Malay tsunami was unlikely to happen in GE14.
