GE14 | PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar (above) will contest Permatang Pauh in the 14th general election (GE14) while her mother and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will contest a seat in the Klang Valley.

English daily The Star, which reported this, quoted party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.

"An announcement will be made soon," he was quoted saying.

In December last year, Malaysiakini had reported that Nurul Izzah was set to become PKR's candidate in Permatang Pauh with Wan Azizah contesting either Pandan or Bandar Tun Razak in the Klang Valley.

Several party sources had told Malaysiakini then that they do not expect Nurul Izzah to defend her Lembah Pantai seat due to the transfer of 6,598 new voters from the police force into the constituency since the 2013 general election.

The two term-incumbent MP retained the Lembah Pantai seat by a sliver of a majority against BN's Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.

If she leaves Lembah Pantai for another seat, Nurul Izzah's former political secretary and PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil is expected to be fielded there.

Nurul Izzah had also been speculated to contest Pandan to replace incumbent MP Rafizi Ramli, who is not expected to contest in GE14 due to multiple court cases which may see him behind bars.

However, she has dismissed the idea as "pure speculation".

The Star also reported Saifuddin as confirming that he would contest the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary seat in Kedah, which he lost to Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir of BN by 1,871 votes in the 13th general election.

He will also contest a state seat in Penang.
