Kevin Morais murder: Judge, accused visit abduction site

The judge and all parties involved in the murder trial of deputy public prosecutor  Anthony Kevin Morais today visited three locations around Jalan Dutamas in Kuala Lumpur, including the place where he was abducted while on his way to work on Sept 4, 2015.

The two other locations were Kevin Morais’ house at Menara Duta Condominium, Jalan Dutamas Raya, and the place where a Mitsubishi Triton four-wheel-drive vehicle with four men inside crashed into a Proton Perdana car with Kevin Morais at the wheel.

High Court judge Azman Abdullah, together with the prosecution team, headed by DPP Saiful Edris Zainuddin, the defence team and the accused in the case – R Dinishwaran, AK Thinesh Kumar, M Vishwanath, S Nimalan, S Ravi Chandaran and army doctor Dr R Kunaseegaran – left for the locations at 9.30am and were escorted by police.

They had gathered at the Jalan Duta Court Complex and went to the first location at the Menara Duta Condominium, about 1.4km away, before going to the traffic light intersection, about 500m from the condominium, where the crash involving the Mitsubishi Triton and Kevin Morais’s car took place.

Nimalan was at the wheel of the Mitsubishi Triton, with Dinishwaran, Thinesh Kumar and Vishwanath as passengers.

They then went to the location where Kevin Morais and Nimalan stopped their vehicles before Kevin Morais got out of his car and was abducted.

However, Kunaseegaran, who was in a police truck, did not get down at the locations as he had not been at the locations with the other accused.

DPP Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told reporters that the visit was made to provide a better understanding of the case to both the prosecution and the defence teams.

Dinishwaran, 26; Thinesh Kumar, 25; Vishwanath; 28, Nimalan, 25, Ravi Chandaran, 47, and Kunaseegaran, 55, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of murdering Kevin Morais, 55, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, while the deputy public prosecutor was on his way from Jalan Dutamas 1, Sentul to No 1, Jalan USJ 1/ 6D, Subang Jaya.

They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faced the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Kevin Morais’s body was found in a concrete-filled drum in Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya on Sept 16, 2015, after he was reported missing on Sept 4, 2015.
