PKR is expected to present its list of candidates for the 14th general election (GE14) to party de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Party leaders told Malaysiakini that the list is almost finalised.

"The list is ready, but it should be cleared by the boss [...] the final say is with Anwar," former PKR parliament whip Johari Abdul said when contacted.

PKR vice-president Tian Chua, however, said Anwar would not be vetting the list.

"We have to inform him but it is not for him to approve as such. We are a democratic organisation," Tian said.

The Prisons Department has been becoming more strict on Anwar's access to the outside world.

Recently, it barred PKR lawyer Latheefa Koya from meeting with Anwar saying statements were being released under the latter's name and this was in violation of prison rules.

Statements attributed to Anwar are still being released by PKR periodically. Anwar is currently undergoing treatment at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital.

He was sentenced to a five-year jail term on Feb 10, 2015, on what he has maintained were trumped up sodomy charges. Following a jail term remission, Anwar is expected to be released from the Sungai Buloh Prison on June 8 this year.

Unresolved issues

PKR is expected to announce its list of candidates sometime next week.

The party has already named some youth leaders who will be contesting in GE14 but did not state where they will be contesting.

Malaysiakini understands there are also some issues regarding where party top leaders will be fielded and these have yet to be resolved.

These include whether to field either Anwar's wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail or their daughter Nurul Izzah in Permatang Pauh, a PKR bastion.

There is also the unresolved matter of calls for a top PKR leader to contest in Johor with Nurul Izzah and Tian being among those proposed.
