GE14 | PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will not defend his state seat of Ru Rendang in the 14th general election, which he has held for seven terms, since its creation in 1986.

According to PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Hadi will only defend his parliamentary seat of Marang.

"For your information, the PAS president, deputy president and myself will only contest in parliamentary seats.

"(Hadi) won't be defending Ru Rendang," he told a press conference at PAS headquarters today.

Hadi garnered 11,468 votes to Umno's 8,649 votes in Ru Rendang during the last general election.

At the federal level, Hadi also won the Marang seat with 43,984 votes to Umno's 37,860 votes.

As Ru Rendang state assemblyperson, Hadi became the menteri besar of Terengganu in 1999 when PAS won the state.

Hadi, 70, had previously indicated that he will only be contesting one seat in the upcoming general election, but had not clarified if it would be a state or parliamentary seat.
