GE14 | Former Selangor Amanah election bureau director Jaafar Samsudin has stressed that issue of the Kota Raja candidacy had no bearing on his sudden exit from the party.

Instead, Jaafar said the party's top leadership including president Mohamad Sabu, who he claimed has been eyeing the seat, should listen to his views as the district head as he carries with him the voice of the grassroots.

"I have long known that Mat Sabu (Mohamad Sabu) wants to contest here (Kota Raja). At the very least come and see me, as what's important is the personal touch with me.

"I know more (than him) what has been going on here and what the residents of Kota Raja want," he was quoted saying by Sinar Harian.

The 62-year-old, who is also more fondly known as Cikgu Jaafar, announced his immediate departure from the party last night, just 10 days before nomination day for the 14th general election.

This led to speculation that he was unhappy that Mohamad would be parachuted into Kota Raja.

Meanwhile, Jaafar also said he had no immediate plan on joining any other party.

Even so, he said he had never viewed those in PAS or BN as enemies.

"Maybe today we are opponents, but it is not impossible that tomorrow we could be friends, just like (what happened) with Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"In politics, all that differentiates us is the organisations (we join), in fact before this, I had left PAS to join Amanah, yet I am still friends with those in PAS and also Umno, BN," he said.

Jaafar joined PAS in 1998 and held the position of Selangor PAS election director from 2002 to 2015. He left PAS for Amanah in 2016.

Prior to that, he was a member of Umno and Semangat 46, and worked with the late Selangor menteri besar Harun Idris.
