GE14 | Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has fired back at caretaker Johor menteri besar Khaled Nordin's vow to ensure the former's defeat wherever he may contest.

Speaking at a press conference in Pagoh today, Muhyiddin questioned if Khaled would survive the 14th general election.

"I heard Khaled will contest two seats. He's scared (so) if he loses one seat, he can win another and still have hope.

"I want to ask if he'll stay in Permas or move to another seat, or if he'll remain as menteri besar or not.

"If he wants to win he should take good care of his constituency," Muhyiddin said.

Muhyiddin will be contesting both in Pagoh and in the Gambir state seat - a mixed seat which BN won in 2013 with a razor-thin majority of 310

Similarly, there is speculation that Khaled will both defend the Permas state seat, as well as contest the Pasir Gudang parliament seat he held prior to 2013.

However, the caretaker menteri besar has said that such a move will be decided by the top BN leadership.

Khaled had won Permas with a 5,752 vote majority in 2013.

In contrast, BN's Normala Abdul Samad had won Pasir Gudang - which Permas is a part of - with a slim majority of 935 votes.

A move to contest both in parliament and state is unusual for BN, as the coalition normally boasts to have many capable leaders.

Meanwhile, there was also speculation that Khaled may be replaced as Johor menteri besar.

At one point, it was rumoured that he would be replaced either by incumbent Muar MP Razali Ibrahim, or incumbent Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamad.

There is, however, no clear indication as of yet that either of the two caretaker deputy ministers would be contesting for a state seat in Johor.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said he expects Khaled to dish out goodies and aid in an effort to woo voters against him.

However, he said that voters will be wise enough to judge him by his contributions and Pakatan Harapan's struggles.
