GE14 | Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin has accused BN of sabotaging a road in Johor, which leads to a ceramah featuring Dr Mahathir Mohamad tonight.

He claimed the Public Works Department (PWD) had dug up the road from Panchor to Grisek, Pagoh, to slow down traffic to the ceramah.

"Tonight we will have a Jelajah Harapan ceramah, and suddenly a good road was purposely damaged.

"The PWD dug up a good road to slow down traffic," Muhyiddin told a press conference in Pagoh today.

A check by Malaysiakini found that a one-kilometre stretch of the road was indeed damaged but a local said it had been in that condition for some time.

Pagoh Umno has denied that it is out to disrupt any Pakatan Harapan programmes.

The former deputy prime minister said he had always ensured that the Panchor-Grisek road was in good order for years, and thus the allegedly unexplained roadworks came as a shock.

He said BN should act like gentlemen and not resort to such tactics.

The Jelajah Harapan ceramah tonight is expected to see Mahathir, who is Bersatu chairperson, naming the party's candidates for Johor at both the parliamentary and state levels.

Last night, Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong claimed to have been sabotaged in Ayer Hitam, when the lights for a ceramah venue in a Malay village were turned off.

Muhyiddin to contest two seats

Muhyiddin will be contesting both in the Pagoh parliamentary and Gambir state seats, the latter a mixed seat that BN won in 2013 with a razor-thin majority of 310

Similarly there is speculation that incumbent Johor menteri besar Khaled Nordin will defend his Permas state seat and contest the Pasir Gudang parliamentary seat he had held prior to 2013.

However, Khaled has left the final decision to the top BN leadership.

Khaled won Permas with a 5,752 majority in 2013.

In contrast, BN's Normala Abdul Samad won Pasir Gudang - which Permas is a part of - with a slim majority of 935 votes.

For a candidate to contest in both a parliamentary seat and a state seat is unusual for BN, as the coalition normally boasts of sufficient capable leaders.

Meanwhile, there was also speculation that Khaled may be replaced as Johor menteri besar.

At one point, it was speculated that he would be replaced either by incumbent Muar MP Razali Ibrahim or incumbent Pulai MP Nur Jazlan Mohamad.

However, there is no clear indication yet if any the two deputy ministers would be contesting a Johor state seat.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said he expects Khaled to dish out goodies and aid in an effort to woo voters against the Bersatu president.

However, he said voters would be wise enough to judge him by his contributions and Pakatan Harapan's struggles.
