GE14 | Gerakan vice-president Dominic Lau Hoe Chai will again contest in the Batu constituency while Federal Territory acting Youth chief Ong Siang Liang will stand in Kepong, the party announced today.

Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong said their names have been submitted as candidates to caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Najib will make an official announcement on the BN candidates soon, Mah said in a press conference at the BN Batu service centre.

In the previous general election, Gerakan contested the Batu and Segambut seats and gave its traditional Kepong to People's Progressive Party (PPP), now known as MyPPP.

As for the Segambut seat, Mah said the negotiation was still ongoing and an announcement would be made next week.

Lau is expected to face incumbent Batu MP Tian Chua. In the 2013 election, Tian Chua won with a majority of 13,284 votes.

Meanwhile, Ong is likely to contest against DAP's incumbent Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng.

'David vs Goliath'

Later in the afternoon, Mah also announced that Gerakan will be contesting one parliamentary and three state seats in Selangor with state chairperson David Ang Chin Tat contesting Puchong.

As for three state seats, Selangor Gerakan state youth secretary Chai Ko Thing will contest Bukit Gasing, Gerakan Public Services and Complaints Bureau chief Liew Pok Boon to contest Teratai and Gerakan deputy speaker Syed Abdul Razak to contest Bukit Lanjan.

Mah admitted the performance of Gerakan's Puchong candidate in GE13 was not impressive the party stood a better chance this time around as they have served the constituency well.

Puchong is a DAP stronghold with two-term incumbent Gobind Singh Deo defeating Gerakan's A Kohilan Pillay with a 3,2802 majority in the last polls.

Asked about his upcoming battle with Gobind, David Ang admitted it would be a hard fight as Gobind was a 'political celebrity'.

"I have been served here for about two years. Everyone has their own service records but nevertheless, I think it will be a 'David versus Goliath' fight," said Ang.
