As the election looms, PAS has once again justified not working with DAP and PKR, blaming the two for the break up of the former Pakatan Rakyat.

According to Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin was reported claiming throughout their involvement with Pakatan, the two parties had allegedly not respected the Islamist party and “betrayed” them to the point of break up.

“I admit at the time we were on good terms, when DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng came to Perlis, I embraced him and we even helped DAP when they contested Titi Tinggi.

“In the end we were betrayed, including PKR, during the time when we were cooperating (after the end of Pakatan), they worked together with Amanah and sidelined PAS in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections,” he was reported as saying when met at an event in Jejawi Dalam, Arau to announce PAS’ candidates.

“There are many more things that they did, including the Kajang Move, which PAS was completely not informed of,” he claimed.

He added DAP had broken Pakatan’s agreement by “being involved in matters that did not involve them, especially on hudud law”, according to Utusan.

PAS severed ties with DAP in 2015, purportedly over the latter’s disagreement with the move to implement hudud in Kelantan.

The Islamist party continued to remain in the PKR-led Selangor government, even after cutting ties with the latter two years later.

Following the formation of Pakatan Harapan, PAS continued to shun and attack the new opposition coalition blaming the latter’s parties over various matters.

Meanwhile it has been reported as being friendly to Umno, although its leaders have repeatedly denied cooperation with their former nemesis.
