A businessperson with the title of 'Datuk' has been charged at the Sessions Cyber Court in Kuala Lumpur for accessing information about the Royal Lake Club without authorisation three years ago.

Nika Gee Siew Yee was charged today with accessing three files regarding meetings held at the club on a computer owned by Brian Pereira, between 8am to 5pm on Sept 29, 2015.

She claimed trial before Sessions judge Zaman Mohd Noor, with the charge being read out by an interpreter.

Gee was represented by lawyer R Ramesh Sivakumar while DPP Noor Jazilah Mohd Yushaa appeared for the prosecution.

If convicted, Gee stands to face a maximum fine of RM50,000 or five years’ jail for the offence under Section 3(1) of the Computer Crime Act 1997.

Noor Jazilah applied for bail to be set at RM8,000 with one surety. However, Ramesh said the chance of his client absconding while on bail was remote given that she resides locally, and that a bail of RM 5,000 would be sufficient.

Zaman then imposed a bail of RM5,000 and ordered Gee not to meet or interfere with potential witnesses.

Ramesh told reporters he had already sent a representation to attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali as this was some time ago, but said that Gee would be charged today.

"I will continue to make representation," he said, adding the charge was vague as it did not disclose what information was accessed and whether it was confidential.

A representation is sent either to reduce or drop a charge.

The case had captured significant media attention, as Gee has been linked to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin has, however, denied allegations of an affair between him and Gee.

It was reported in September 2016 that Gee's marriage to former senior DPP Stanley Clement Augustin had ended in divorce.

Muhyiddin was not mentioned in the case today.
