GE14 | Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal has taken another shot at caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak over the latter's claim that the former minister had stabbed him in the back.

"I went to his house, I told him face to face, advised him as a friend that you need to investigate 1MDB and take action.

"But when I spoke out, action was taken against me instead. Turns out this friend loves (1MDB-linked businessperson) Jho Low more than his friend," Shafie said in Sandakan today.

On April 9, Najib had told a crowd in Shafie's hometown Semporna that the latter had stabbed him in the back by quitting Umno.

“I advised him to discuss the matter with (Sabah incumbent chief minister) Musa (Aman) but he did not listen to my advice.

“I was disappointed that under certain circumstance he stabbed me in the back... It is painful when a close friend does that to you,” Najib was quoted as saying by Bernama.

Shafie quit Umno in 2016, a year after he was removed from the cabinet for being critical of the 1MDB scandal.

Meanwhile, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin - who was also axed from the cabinet along with Shafie for the same reason -  also poked fun at Najib's remarks.

"Maybe if he (Najib) met me, he would say 'You stabbed me in the front'," Muhyiddin quipped.

The pair was speaking at the launch of Pakatan Harapan's Sabah manifesto.

Warisan is not a member of Harapan, but has formed a pact with PKR and DAP for the upcoming polls.
