Former deputy premier Abdul Ghafar Baba's health condition remains stable although he is still unable to talk.

"My father's condition is the same as yesterday. He still cannot talk, probably he is too weak," his daughter Sally told Bernama today.

"Nevertheless, he is responding to family members who visited him," she added.

Yesterday, Ghafar, 80, was reported to be able to breathe on his own without the aid of respiratory equipment.

Meanwhile, Pantai Medical Centre public relations unit spokesman said Ghafar was still not allowed to receive visitors.

He is being treated at the private specialist hospital for heart and lung complications.

Earlier, he was warded at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre in Petaling Jaya for chest pains before being transferred to the PMC's Intensive Care Unit on Oct 12.

Yesterday, rumours began to spread widely that he had died. This led the medical centre to issue a denial.
