Caretaker minister sacked from party; Tian Chua stays put after quit talk

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Caretaker minister sacked from party

Caretaker minister in the prime minister's department Joseph Entulu Belaun was sacked from Parti Rakyat Sarawak.

MCA president Liow Tiong Lai confirmed that his party gave up the parliamentary seat of Bandar Tun Razak to Umno in exchange for Ampang.

Bandar Tun Razak MCA division chairperson Chew Yin Keen said he was saddened by the decision but promised he will not sabotage Umno.

Terengganu BN will allow former state menteri besar Ahmad Said to defend his Kijal state seat despite having previously sided with former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad

MIC unveiled its candidate list which showed a planned swap for Umno's Jelebu had been aborted and the party will also keep Cameron Highlands, leaving MyPPP president M Kayveas, who had wanted the constituency, without a seat.

MyPPP will only be allowed to contest one parliamentary seat in the 14th general election, which is Segambut.

Kayveas said he will not stop MyPPP vice-president Loga Bala Mohan from contesting Segambut but said he did not receive Loga Bala’s endorsement.

Tian Chua stays put after quit speculation

PKR vice-president Tian Chua said he will remain in the party but reminded the PKR top leadership against bowing to factional interests in deciding the candidates list for the 14th general election.

Tian Chua also indicated he was not keen to contest in Johor and was fine if he was not fielded in the 14th general election.

The quit speculation surfaced after complaints that PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had altered the candidate list from the initial proposal by the selection committee but party deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali downplayed that there was a crisis.

Otai Reformis secretary Shaiful Ariffin warned those upset with the changes against threatening Wan Azizah.

On a separate matter, Azmin criticised a protest by PKR against Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad using the PKR logo as the coalition's common logo.

DAP confirms Kit Siang for Iskandar Puteri

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang will defend his parliamentary seat of Iskandar Puteri, which has been renamed from Gelang Patah.

Lim said Umno president Najib Abdul Razak's indecisiveness in calling for the general election had led to Umno's legality coming to question as it surpassed the allowed 18-month extension to have its party election.

Selangor DAP will field six new faces for the 14th general election while veteran Ronnie Liu, who was dropped in the last general election, will make a comeback.

Another highlight is DAP's candidate for Bandar Utama Jamailah Jamaluddin, who is the granddaughter of Communist Party of Malaya leader Shamsiah Fakeh.

Other Kinibites

Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak lambasted the opposition for allegedly spreading fake news about a Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) to be implemented during the general election, to make it more difficult for Malaysians to drive back from Singapore.

Najib also urged voters to retain the BN government to ensure continuity in Putrajaya's housing agenda.

Penang DAP chief Chow Koon Yeow will be allowed to contest two seats in the 14th general election, a privilege the DAP had previously only reserved for the Penang chief minister, in an apparent succession plan if Lim Guan Eng goes to jail.

Former finance minister Daim Zainuddin said he was prepared to assist Pakatan Harapan if it wins in the 14th general election.

Azwan Ali, the younger brother of Mohamed Azmin Ali, vowed to challenge the caretaker Selangor menteri besar in the general election.

Looking ahead

Najib will officiate a new building of the Kuen Cheng High School in Kuala Lumpur.

Both Selangor BN and Bersatu will unveil their general election candidates lists in Shah Alam.
