GE14 | Selangor PKR deputy chief Zuraida Kamaruddin said her meeting with PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail yesterday was due to the existence of certain "candidate lists" that did not conform to the party's process.

“I had attended the meeting due to concerns over 'candidate lists' that were floating around which had not gone through the structured processes laid down by the party.

"This had caused anxiety and uncertainty among party grassroots,” she said in a statement today.

Zuraida denied that the meeting was intended to strike a deal on the choices of PKR candidates in Selangor, adding the meeting also involved other states' PKR leadership.

"With me were other key leaders such as Baru Bian from Sarawak and Mohd Nur Manuty from Perak. The meeting was not just about Selangor.

"I am surprised by the speculation and shoddy information being published about that meeting," she said, noting the discussion with Wan Azizah was amicable and constructive.

Some Selangor PKR circles were up in arms yesterday over claims that Wan Azizah had altered the candidate lists proposed by the state leadership.

Amid the complaints, rumours swirled that PKR vice-president Tian Chua was about to resign.

Tian Chua later reiterated his commitment to PKR, but singled out de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Wan Azizah, urging them not to give in to factional interest when deciding on the candidate list.

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also Selangor PKR chief, had today met Anwar at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital where the latter is recuperating from a shoulder surgery.

Anwar is presently serving a prison sentence and will only be freed in June.

PKR supreme council member Johari Abdul had previously said that the candidate lists would be reviewed by Anwar.
