Ibrahim Ali returns, will contest in Pasir Mas again

GE14 | Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali wants to be in the thick of action again in the 14th general election.

This time he wants to contest the Pasir Mas parliamentary seat as well as the Tendong state seat under it.

Announcing his candidacy at the Malay right wing movement’s headquarters here today, Ibrahim said he took the decision after studying the current political landscape in Kelantan.

“In Kelantan, the fight is only between BN and PAS, but I see it is more like friendly matches.

“Many in Pasir Mas want me to contest there and I feel an independent has better prospects,” said Ibrahim, who will be using the slogan ‘Untuk Alif Ba Ta’, short for ‘Untuk Agama, Bangsa dan Tanahair’ (For religion, race and country), in his campaign.

Ibrahim has contested the Pasir Mas seat in the 1986, 1990, 1995, 1999, 2004, 2008 and 2013 general elections using the tickets of various parties.

He won the seat on a BN ticket in 1986, Semangat 46 ticket in 1990, and PAS ticket in 2008.

He stood on a BN ticket in 1995 and 1999, but lost again in 2004 and 2013 when he stood as an independent.

Meanwhile, Ibrahim said that the movement’s supreme council would hold an emergency meeting tonight to decide whether he should tie up with any political party that is aligned to its interests or go it solo.
