Wangsa Maju Umno division may be disappointed that their candidate won't be fielded for the elections but they will back the chosen BN candidate Yew Teong Look.

Dismissing claims that the Federal Territories Umno will take over the Wangsa Maju division election operations, division chief Mohd Shafei Abdullah said his members were already hitting the campaign trail.

"Our operation centres are already running," he said when contacted.

Yesterday, Federal Territories BN chairperson Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said there are rumoured plans to sabotage BN in Bandar Tun Razak and Wangsa Maju.

In view of this, Federal Territories Umno may take over the Wangsa Maju division. As for Bandar Tun Razak, Tengku Adnan said discussions are underway with MCA on how to deal with possible saboteurs.

BN had won in Wangsa Maju in 1995 and 1999 by placing an Umno candidate. The rights to represent BN there was then passed to MCA in 2004.

In 2013, MCA had "loaned" the seat to Umno, which nominated Shafie as the candidate. However, local MCA leaders were unhappy with the decision and decided not to help Shafie's campaign.

Eventually, Shafei was defeated with a majority of 5,511 votes.

Soon after Federal Territories announced its candidates on April 23, Shafie said he will be going on a break, since he was not the candidate.

However, when he spoke to Malaysiakini today, it seems the break was over.

"I am okay, life must go on," he said with a chuckle.
