GE14 | After the elections, a masked Marvel superhero with a mouth fouler than 'Superman' Hew Kuan Yau wants your support by going to the cinema to watch Deadpool 2.
Billboards for the movie, featuring the Deadpool character with outstretched arms, has been erected across the country with the caption "Sokonglah Deadpool 2."
According to Advertising and Marketing, a spokesperson for movie distributor 20th Century Fox, the billboards reflected the bizarre and wisecracking nature of the title character.
"Of course, with the general election just around the corner, we thought Deadpool needed some support too and there is no harm in shouting out loud for it," said the spokesperson.
The first Deadpool movie, which was R-rated, was a huge departure from the normally family-friendly Marvel movies and made a huge splash at the international box office.
Advertising and Marketing also reported that several more companies are launching campaigns related to the general elections.
For instance, Grab Malaysia is offering a limited-editor "GE14 Voters' Kit", containing a t-shirt, a fan and a discount promo code for two rides.
Rick Teo, the movie's local marketing team is capitalising on GE14 to advertise the upcoming movie.
What is this all about. Dont understand the purpose of it.
This is excellent marketing. Good job to 20th Century Fox!
