GE14 | Just three days before nomination day for the 14th general election, PKR has swapped its candidates for the Seri Setia and Kota Anggerik state seats in Selangor.

According to a party source, PKR vice-president Shaharuddin Badaruddin was previously set to be fielded in the Kota Anggerik seat, while PKR Youth leader Najwan Halimi was slated for Seri Setia.

However, the duo have now swapped the seats with each other, with Najwan for Kota Anggerik and Shaharuddin for Seri Setia.

The swap was purportedly made this morning following on the orders of party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"They swapped seats. Suddenly, when they were collecting the surat watikah (authorisation letters) this morning, the president asked for the swap," the source told Malaysiakini.

According to the source, no specific reason was given for the swap, but it is understood that it happened due to a request from Shaharuddin.

Shaharuddin wrote about the swap on his Facebook page earlier today.

"It is hereby informed that Shaharuddin has officially been mandated by the PKR leadership to be the candidate for Seri Setia state seat.

"We will continue Pakatan Harapan's victory in Selangor and make sure we take over Putrajaya," read the statement.

Shaharuddin is a former Universiti Teknologi Mara lecturer, while Najwan used to be the press secretary of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Najwan also used to work for incumbent Seri Setia assemblyperson Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who will be contesting in the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat in GE14.

In the 2013 election, Nik Nazmi retained the state seat with a 4,663 majority against BN’s Abdul Halim Samad.

Both Shaharuddin and Najwan are expected to face three-cornered fights in their seats, facing BN and PAS candidates respectively.

Both seats are Malay-majority areas.
