"I was quoted to have said my replacement will lose and I will go on holiday now. That's not true," he said in a statement today.
"I reiterate that I remain fully committed to the cause of PKR and Pakatan Harapan to change the federal government in Putrajaya.
"I will only go for a short holiday after polling day on May 9," he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Sin Chew Daily quoted Kee Kwong as expressing puzzlement over why PKR had not chosen to retain him in Wangsa Maju.
"I can't understand why the party didn't choose me and instead chose someone who loses anywhere she goes," he was quoted as saying by the report.
When contacted, Kee Kwong clarified that he was only referring to Yee Kew's defeat in Tanjong Malim during the last general election.
"That was on record," he said.
Kee Kwong said he had helped Harapan's Muhammad Hilman Idham to campaign in Gombak Setia.
He added he will also help campaign for PKR's Gombak and Batu candidates on April 28, nomination day.
The incumbent was coy when asked if he will help Yee Kew to campaign in Wangsa Maju.
Kee Kwong was the former Federal Territories Gerakan chief, while Yee Kew was a former MCA central committee member.
In the 2004 general election, Kee Kwong was elected the Segambut MP while Yee Kew was the Klang MP. Neither contested in the 2008 general election.
They both joined PKR within a month of each other in 2008.
After joining PKR, Kee Kwong was fielded in Wangsa Maju in the 2013 general election and won by a 5,511-vote majority.
Yee Kew was fielded in Tanjong Malim, but lost to BN's Ong Ka Chuan by 4,328 votes.
No one is indispensable and a good leader must gracious & move on. Under the circumstances, it's hypocritical, very disloyal and destructive not to support & campaign for your comrade & your PKR candidate that your party had decided for Wangsa Maju. Your denial is very shallow and the fact that you undermined & publicly attacked the party's choice and the candidate, and your REFUSAL to campaign for your replacement is sufficient proof of your behaviour. A magnanimous & dignified leader would have bowed down to the people and graciously thank the people of Wangsa Maju for the past support and will implore the people to continue to give their support to the new candidate as well as to gratefully thank your PKR party for supporting you in the last election in Wangsa Maju. You must reciprocate & graciously return the same and not talk crap for the media to report that is very detrimental to the hopes and aspiration of the people and the good of the PH coalition.
Good for Dr Tan to clarify and put the record straight. He must remember that his late father, Dr Tan Chee Khoon, then known as Mr Opposition was an honest, rakyat-centric and well-respected politican not only by his own party but also the then Alliance Government. Dr TKK must live up to his father ‘s highly respected political leader reputation. He may not be too keen to campaign for Dr Tan Yee Kew which is understandable after his disappointment but hopefully he was not the one who said that Yew Kew was a loser because of her defeat in Tanjung Malim against MCA’ Secretary General, Ong Kah Chuan. If in 2013, Dr TKK contested in Tanjung Malim, and Yew Kew contested in Wangsa Maju, the result could be Dr TKK lost in Tanjung Malim and Dr Tan Yew Kew won in Wangsa Maju.
Be a gentleman and gracious loser for not being selected..Don't be another Tan Seng Giaw !!!
