GE14 | Kelantan police are probing a state Harapan candidate over a molest case which happened last year.

It is learnt that the suspect is a candidate contesting a state seat in Kelantan, in the 14th general election (GE14) on May 9. 

The matter was confirmed by Kota Bharu police chief ACP Ismail Mat Sidik, based on a police report made by the victim, in her early 50s, in July last year.

"It is not a rape, but molest case. We are investigating it under Section 354 of the Penal Code," he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini understands that the said molest case happened in February last year, at a hotel room in Kota Bharu.

According to a source, the victim was performing ablution to conduct her Zohor prayers, when the suspect, a political party's division chief, walked into the room.

"The woman then went on to conduct her prayers while the suspect laid himself on the bed and watched her pray.

"The suspect then kissed the woman's hand and cheeks, before behaving 'more wildly'," said the source.

However, the woman escaped her predicament when a hotel staff knocked on the room door at that juncture.
