GE14 | Twenty-four hours before nomination day, the PKR candidate for Port Dickson, the party's sole parliamentary seat in Negeri Sembilan, is expected to change yet again.

Rosman Jonet, who received his appointment letter from the party leadership to contest the parliamentary seat, is now no longer qualified.

According to  state party chief Aminuddin Harun, this is because Rosman did not submit a report to the Election Commission to explain his last election spending.

Rosman contested the Linggi state seat on behalf of PKR in last general election in 2013.

"There is one candidate (for his replacement). I also don't know this person. The name was sent by (PKR president) Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail," Aminuddin told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Nomination day for GE14 is tomorrow, while polling day falls on May 9. Port Dickson, previously named Teluk Kemang, was a MIC stronghold.

In 2008 general election, Kamarul Baharin Abbas won the seat for PKR for the first time and he defended the seat with a razor-thin majority of 2.7 percent or 1,579 votes in GE13.

Kamarul is not being fielded by PKR this time around.

BN, meanwhile, is aiming to recapture the seat by fielding Mogan Velayatham, who lost to Kamarul in last GE.

Chairperson Najib Abdul Razak has also vowed that BN will take back the seat after ten years.

Besides Linggi, the other state seats under Port Dickson are Chuah, Lukut, Bagan Pinang, and Sri Tanjung.

A few days ago, the PKR central leadership decided to replace two-term Chuah assemblyperson Chai Tong Chai with Port Dickson division vice-chief Yew Diew Ching, which stirred dissatisfaction among the grassroots in Port Dickson.

Whether the change in the parliamentary candidate will further dampen the chance of PKR to defend the seat remains unclear.

According to the electoral data for GE13, Port Dickson's electorate comprises 42 percent Malays, 34 percent Chinese, 21 percent Indians, and three percent other ethnic groups.
