KJ: Opposition manipulates Rantau issue to play with people's sentiment

GE14 | The victory of caretaker Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan in defending his Rantau state seat uncontested has been manipulated by the opposition to raise the people’s sentiment to reject BN in the 14th general election, says BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said Rembau never really had major issues before, but one had purposely been created to cause anger among the people.

“The Rembau constituents are familiar with BN and we don’t really have problem here, but he (PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli) purposely played with the people’s sentiment like he played the issue of 40,000 Bangladeshi voters in the GE13. I’m sure he has a lot more issues to raise over the next few days.

“The Rantau state seat issue is just a beginning for the opposition to build their momentum by questioning the Election Commission’s credibility. EC has to respond quickly,” he told reporters after going on a walkabout at the Rembau town today.

On April 28 nomination day, returning officer Amino Agos Suyub duly declared Mohamad as the winner of the Rantau state seat in Rembau parliamentary constituency, which he has held since 2004, after his sole challenger Dr S Streram was barred from entering the nomination centre for not bringing his candidate pass as required by the EC.

Khairy is in a three-cornered fight against Mustafa Dolah (PAS) and Lt Col (Rtd) Roseli Abdul Ghani (PKR) to defend his Rembau parliamentary seat. In the last general election, he won with 18,357-vote majority.
