As the 14th general election campaign enters its fifth day, more DAP candidates claim they have become victims of fake news.
As the 14th general election campaign enters its fifth day, more DAP candidates claim they have become victims of fake news.
DAP Bagan Dalam candidate Satees Muniandy says he is the latest victim of fake news with photos of his alleged luxury house worth RM527,000 going viral on social media.
"I would be the first person to be happy if I have such a home. If this news is true I would be the owner of an expensive home worth half a million," Satees told Malaysiakini.
Satees denied he was a restaurant owner or a professional who joined politics as a part-timer.
"I don't have government contracts worth millions, I am just a local councillor who earns about RM4,000 a month," he added.
Satees is facing Malaysian United Party's Teoh Huat Lye, MIC's Xhibagaran Jayabalan, PRM's Teoh Huck Ping and Penang Front Party's Jasper Ooi Zong Han in a five-way fight.
Yesterday, another two DAP leaders also said they had become victims of fake news.
Batu Kawan candidate Kasthurirani Patto is holding a press conference to deny that she would be “turning all mosques into famous churches” should Pakatan Harapan seizes federal power in GE14.
The incumbent one-term former MP has lodged a police report about the posters carrying the fake messages.
Speech manipulated
Caretaker deputy chief minister II P Ramasamy also lodged a police report yesterday saying his speech on April 30 at Taman Supreme, Prai, was "manipulated" as he was trying to explain Harapan's engagement with former premier and Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I will be reporting the matter to the Election Commission and police," said the Prai candidate.
Ramasamy says the link to his original video can be accessed here.
Mahathir, who is contesting the Langkawi seat, has been appointed Harapan's prime ministerial candidate with PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy if the coalition wins Putrajaya on May 9, polling day.
Earlier, DAP's Syerleena Abdul Rashid also lodged a police report when posters claiming she supports a Christian state in Penang went viral on social media.
