GE14 | Kedah PAS is prepared to cooperate with anyone willing to accept its Islamic principles in the event of a hung assembly, according to its Sungai Limau state assembly candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samat.

He said the party’s leaders have always been clear and consistent that this is the prerequisite for working with PAS.

“On this matter, we at the party leadership is clear on our principles and policies: If you want to be with PAS, (accept) PAS’ Islamic principles. If you don’t want, then Pakatan Harapan and BN can get together and form the government. This is the principle and policy that we have.

“If everyone agrees to accept Islam, then Alhamdulillah,” he told a press conference at the Kedah PAS headquarters in Kota Sarang Semut today.

He was asked to comment on Universiti Utara Malaysia researcher Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani’s prediction yesterday that BN would win 16 out of 36 state assembly seats in Kedah, followed by Harapan (12) and PAS (8).

A party or coalition would need 19 seats to form the Kedah legislative assembly, and Azizuddin said the situation could potentially make PAS kingmakers in Kedah for the election.

"And I think you know where they will swing," he said.

However, he cautioned that the situation is still very fluid, and could still swing in either direction in the coming days because there are many marginal seats in Kedah.

Azam, meanwhile, lamented that questions regarding unity governments are often directed to PAS but not Harapan and its component parties.

“Many people would ask where PAS would go. We in PAS are consistent – we go with our policies. Perhaps you should ask those in Pakatan Harapan.

“Bersatu - would it rejoin Umno? Amanah – do they aspire to be the government or join another party because they couldn’t? And PKR too.

“Why are these questions always directed at PAS whereas we are with our policies?” he asked.
