A PKR branch leader in Wangsa Maju today failed to obtain leave at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to challenge the alleged presence of some 7,000 dubious voters which led to a sudden rise of voters in the area.

Justice Nordin Hassan refused to grant leave after allowing a preliminary objection by senior federal counsels Suzana Atan and Shamsul Bolhassan, from the Attorney-General's Chambers, ruling that an electoral roll once gazetted cannot be challenged in court under Section 9A the Election Act 1958.

The judge further rejected the bid by applicant S Raveentheran for an investigation on five police reports lodged by him over the discrepancy.

He named the inspector-general of police, Wangsa Maju district police chief, the Election Commission, its chairperson and chief registrar as respondents in a judicial review application which was filed on April 26.

The applicant was seeking a mandamus to compel the police to investigate on the electoral roll following the purported transfer of 7,000 voters within a short space of time.

Raveentheran wanted the EC to exercise its constitutional duty and investigate the purported breaches leading to the transfer of voters into the constituency.

PKR candidate for Wangsa Maju seat Tan Yew Kew, who was present at the press conference, said they would file an appeal to the Court of Appeal.

She said since 2016 they noticed a large number of voters changing their addresses and moving into the constituency.

"Raveentheran and others conducted their own investigations by going to the addresses stipulated and found that 1,227 voters do not stay on those addresses.

"It should not be our task to investigate and there is a possibility of more," Tan added.
