GE14 | Former Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh (above) has called on civil servants nationwide to leave their comfort zone and vote for change in support of Pakatan Harapan in coming general election.

She said even politicians like herself have had to make sacrifices by leaving their own comfort zones, citing her move to contest the Segambut parliamentary seat.

Yeoh has served as Subang Jaya assemblyperson for two terms.

"I had left my comfort zone in being the youngest speaker, in contesting Segambut. Even Selangor exco member Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad left his post and seat at Seri Setia to contest in  Setiawangsa.

"Liew Chin Tong, has also left Kluang to contest against MCA vice-president Wee Ka Siong in Ayer Hitam. 

"As you can see, we have left all our comfort zones and are contesting elsewhere. The civil servants should do the same and leave their comfort zone of voting for BN and vote for Harapan if they want a change," she said to a 4,000-strong crowd in the federal administrative capital of Putrajaya last night.

She added that initially, the civil servants in Penang and Selangor were quite apprehensive about the change in state governments, but after the latter have been running the state for two terms, the civil servants see the benefits such as bonuses, among others.

Yeoh also credited her political success to her teacher by the name of Cikgu Raja Kamaruzaman, whom she introduced on stage.

Despite hurls of abuses, Yeoh said her teacher had stood up and supported her and was willing to campaign for her despite being a civil servant.

"The result is I was elected and became the youngest one appointed to the state legislative assembly speaker and also the first female speaker," she said.

Addressing the civil servants listening in the crowd last night, Yeoh urged them to vote for Harapan if they love the country and are no longer happy with what is happening to it under BN's rule.

She stressed that under Pakatan, civil servants would not be punished for their voting choices.
