GE14 | Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak today told the people of Terengganu to not allow the "nightmare" of PAS' five-year rule of the state, from 1999 to 2004, to be repeated.
He said they should learn from past mistakes and to take heed of this when taking to the polls on May 9.
"We once experienced the nightmare (of PAS' rule) in Terengganu for five years and we do not want to repeat what we went through then, he said to thousands attending the launch of the Terengganu urban transformation centre in Kuala Terengganu today.
According to Najib further, the people also could not rely upon any opposition coalitions.
"The one contesting with the bruised eye, we see that we cannot rely (on them), and we also see that our future lies with BN (Barisan National)," said Najib, who is also BN chairperson.
Najib was referring to PKR's red, blue and white "eye" logo which party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had likened to the black eye sustained by her husband and Pakatan Harapan de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim after his arrest under the Internal Security Act (ISA) in 1998.
The Harapan coalition component parties have stated that their candidates will be contesting the 14th general election using the common PKR logo.
Hence, Najib urged voters in the state to make the "wise choice" of voting for BN.
"Thank you for making this programme a success, and I, as the president of BN and the (caretaker) prime minister of Malaysia, beg you to make the wise choice on May 9 and ensure Terengganu stays in BN's hands," he said.
BN had lost Terengganu to PAS in 1999, but succeeded in reclaiming the state after one term, winning it back in 2004.
