GE14 | Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak has accused Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad of attempting to exploit the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat to garner votes.

He said if the former premier was sincere, the latter should have visited Nik Aziz's grave before this and not when polling day is around the corner.

He also recalled how Mahathir had hurled a slew of insults against the venerated PAS leader in the past.

“Today, the family of the late Nik Aziz locked the entrance to the burial ground because they did not want Mahathir to enter because if he was sincere, why didn't he visit the grave all this while.

“If sincere, wait until after the general election (to visit).

“Before this, he hurled all sorts of insults at Nik Aziz, he said Nik Aziz was too old... should quit politics although Nik Aziz was younger than him,” he added, according to Umno Online.

The caretaker prime minister was speaking at a programme in his parliamentary constituency of Pekan in Pahang this afternoon.

Earlier, Mahathir had denied that there was a political agenda behind his intention to visit the grave in Kota Bharu and said he would do so after the polls.

Najib: DAP is a 'slander factory'

Meanwhile, Najib described DAP as a factory which produced slander and always on the lookout for issues to condemn BN and its leadership.

He said this was admitted by a DAP member himself who claimed the party created false claims and spread slander to achieve its political objectives.

“Today, I read on my smartphone about a person who handled news for DAP exposing that he is no longer willing to spread slander...

“DAP says a vote for PKR is the same as a vote for DAP, which means if we do this, we are giving power to DAP.

“I wish to ask has DAP ever cared for Felda or championed the bumiputera agenda?” he added.

At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, DAP lifetime member Amran Ahmad decried his party's recent videos and posters.

“These (video and posters) are all planned accusations and malicious propaganda by DAP using the name of Pakatan Harapan.

“These are aimed at government leaders and the (caretaker) prime minister... They talk about him, his wife and many other government leaders.

"To me, this is malicious propaganda carried out so they can win elections,” he had said.
