GE14 | Police have received more than 112 reports on various offences in three states since the campaigning period for the 14th general election began on April 28.

Kedah recorded the highest number among the states with 61 such reports, followed by Malacca (31) and Johor (over 20).

In Alor Setar, Kedah deputy police chief Sahabudin Abd Manan said 31 out of 61 reports they received involved damage to posters, banners and party flags; three under the Anti-Fake News Act 2018); and a break-in case.

He said police also received three reports over disturbances and 23 on other cases.

“Of the 61 reports, we have opened 10 investigation papers,” he told reporters at the Kedah police contingent headquarters here today.

In Malacca, state police chief Abdul Jalil Hassan said police opened seven probe papers under Section 437 and 435 of the Penal Code, out of 31 reports they received.

He said 24 other police reports were forwarded to other agencies as they were not under the jurisdiction of the force.

“Most of the reports involved damage to party flags, posters and banners. There were no reports lodged on brawl incidents or commotion,” he told reporters at the Malacca police contingent headquarters.

In Johor Bahru, state police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said over 20 reports were lodged on GE14-related offences with two men, aged 57 and 71, were detained so far.

He said one of them had allegedly pushed an MCA supporter from the stage when the BN component party was campaigning in Yong Peng, Batu Pahat.

The other suspect had allegedly hit a PAS supporter using a plastic chair at a restaurant in Skudai, he told reporters after casting his vote in early voting at the state police contingent headquarters here.

However, Khalil said the men were released on police bail pending full investigation under Section 324 and 325 of the Penal Code.
