Rais rubbishes spectre of DAP, asks Malays to vote for change
GE14 | Former minister Rais Yatim said bread and butter issues, such as the rising cost of living and the goods and services tax (GST), will prevail over the spectre of DAP destroying the rights of Malays when Malaysians cast their votes tomorrow.

GE14 | Former minister Rais Yatim said bread and butter issues, such as the rising cost of living and the goods and services tax (GST), will prevail over the spectre of DAP destroying the rights of Malays when Malaysians cast their votes tomorrow.
In a video posted on Amanah's Facebook page, the veteran politician, who is "under investigation" by Umno for appearing at Pakatan Harapan ceramah sessions, said claims that voting for Harapan, in which DAP is a component member, will endanger the rights of Malays was also untrue.
"There are four Chinese component parties in BN, but in Harapan, there is only one (DAP). DAP may win 35 seats, out of the 54 seats it is contesting, nationwide. This is not enough to determine the future of the country.
"So the allegations (that voting DAP will threaten Malay rights) are to spook the Malays into not voting for Harapan.
"But the smart Malays have now wised up and changed their minds, and started to think about the wrongs committed by the BN coalition. (Issues like) the rising cost of living, the GST, and the selling of the country's assets will matter more to the voters than the spectre of DAP destroying Malay rights, which is not true," Rais said.
According to him, the Malays of today are not like those from 20 to 30 years ago, and they have begun to see how corruption is committed before their very eyes.
"They see how to change that, and all the towns, and villages, are ready to change the government, and the future of the country, and their race."
Ku Nan: No action yet against Rais
Meanwhile, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor was quoted as saying by Bernama that no action is yet to be taken against Rais for appearing at opposition events.
This is because he is yet to receive a report from those officially tasked with monitoring Umno members' conducts.
"Umno is a structured party, we investigate first before taking action.
"He (Rais) is still an Umno member and the party has not taken any action against him, as he has not 'crossed the line'," Tengku Adnan was quoted as saying.
Rais had previously said that he would have no hard feelings if he is to be sacked from the party.
Umno has also axed two other party veterans - Rafidah Aziz and Daim Zainuddin, for appearing on opposition platforms.
