GE14 | PAS research centre has claimed that Pakatan Harapan is desperate to win over Muslim voters whose support has shifted to the Islamist party from BN.

The centre's director Mohd Zuhdi Marsuki said the percentage of Muslim voters who have moved from BN to PAS is seven percent.

“These are Muslim voters on the fence who leaned towards BN in the last general election, which is 13 percent of the total number of Muslim voters.

“With this shift, PAS and Gagasan Sejahtera are expected to garner an average of 52 percent of Muslim voters' support compared to BN (39 percent) and Harapan (nine percent),” he said.

His statement was published in Harakah Online with the headline “PAS dijangka menang dengan Tsunami Hijau” (PAS expected to win with green tsunami).

Based on the current composition, Zuhdi said Harapan might lose the parliament seats where Muslim voters form more than 50 percent of the electorate.

This situation, he claimed, has resulted in Harapan's strategists hitting the panic button.

He added that the opposition coalition is attempting to create a “winning psychology” by releasing research findings through their proxies which purportedly show the tide is in Harapan's favour.

According to Zuhdi, it is this desperation which led to Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad switching strategies.

He noted how the former premier has acknowledged the contributions of his ex-PAS leaders such as Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and Fadzil Noor.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that Invoke Malaysia predicted that Harapan would form the next federal government with a simple majority based on its latest voter inclination modeling exercise and survey results for Peninsular Malaysia.

The group also predicted that PAS would not win a single seat – either parliamentary or state – throughout Peninsula Malaysia.

PAS is contesting the most number of seats compared to other parties, including Umno. It is contesting a total of 547 parliament and state seats nationwide.
