GE14 | Jeffrey Kitingan of the Solidariti Tanah Airku (Solidariti) party successfully defeated his elder brother, Joseph Pairin Kitingan in a four-cornered contest for the Tambunan State seat in the 14th general election (GE-14) yesterday.

In Jeffrey's first attempt against his brother in Tambunan, which is considered a clash between two giants of politics in Sabah, Jeffrey defeated Pairin with a majority of 1,037 votes. Jeffrey earned 6,136 votes against Pairin’s 5,099 votes.

The two other candidate in the four-cornered fight were Justin Alip from Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) who garnered 1,427 votes while Parti Cinta Sabah candidate (PCS), represented by Nestor Joannes secured 456 votes.

In GE13, Jeffrey challenged his brother in the Keningau parliamentary seat in a three-cornered fight but lost to Pairin who obtained a majority of 3,918 votes.

Pairin, 77, was Tambunan assemblyman for 42 years since winning the seat in 1976.

In the 13th general election, Pairin won the Tambunan state seat with a majority of 2,079 votes in a five-cornered fight.
