UPDATED 3.44PM | GE14 | Newly-minted Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has asserted his resolve to claim the state's oil royalty entitlement.

Ahmad Samsuri, who was sworn in last night, said he would seek legal recourse as one of several methods he would employ to achieve this end.

"We will fight to reclaim Terengganu oil royalty and earnings from the Bertam oilfield that was lost and removed from the state finances, by employing legal means, (and) negotiations," he said in his maiden speech as menteri besar.

Meanwhile, during a press conference last night, Ahmad Samsuri assured non-muslims in the state that they have nothing to fear from the new administration.

He said the state government under PAS would ensure that all problems faced by non-muslims would still be tended to prudently.

"There is no need for concern in regards to issues (involving non-Muslims), insya-Allah because we will address them with subtle means including holding discussing and meeting (those concerned).

"We will also find the best solution for all parties, so don't worry," he said yesterday.

To that end, Ahmad Samsuri, who is Ru Rendang assemblyperson, said he is prepared to appoint a non-Muslim representation into his administration.

"Terengganu is among the states that unique at state assembly level and have made improvements to appoint different races to represent their community in the (state) government, and we will observe the need (to appoint a non-Muslim) and will carry out the appointment if necessary," he said.

Meanwhile, he said he will issue a special explanation when questioned over the new state government's long-term plans and vision.

He added that the state will also form a committee to oversee the execution of Terengganu PAS's manifesto.

"In regards to the execution of the manifesto, we will form a committee to carry it out, and also distribute (responsibilities) according to suitability of each exco portfolios.

"More importantly is the general message to the people of Terengganu that the government that we are building here is a government for the people... we will all carry the message of caring among one another," he said, adding the new state exco's first meeting will take place on Monday, as soon as they move into Wisma Darul Iman. 

On the matter of the reshuffling of state government agencies, Ahmad Samsuri said he will first evaluate the extent of improvements needed before maligning anyone.

"When there are improvements, of course there coud be some reshuffling to facilitate that (but) without persecuting anyone, and that will be our basis (of action)," he said.

He added that they will also be studying mega projects in the state to evaluate their execution and financial implications to the state government.
