Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is known as a man of many capabilities, but never for ‘clairvoyance’.

At least not until a two-minute video surfaced on YouTube last month, which shows a younger-looking Mahathir predicting that Umno will no longer be in power by the year 2020. It is not clear when the video was recorded.

"In 2020, Umno may not be in power anymore, as they may have been rejected by the Malays themselves, who are bored of the money politics practised by Umno," said Mahathir.

"I think 2020 is the maximum Umno will lead. I think even before that, we will see Umno's quality go downhill, along with its support.

"When Umno is weak, having been rejected by the Malays, then BN will also fall."

Aside from the people becoming sick of money politics, Mahathir also predicts in the video that Umno leaders will end up fighting for their own positions and not for the country, which will also lead to their rejection.

What he does not appear to anticipate in the video, however, is the popularity of a party like Bersatu.

"Because the other parties, the other Malay parties, will also not get support from the Malays themselves," he says.

As 'prophesied' by Mahathir in the video, BN lost the elections for the first time in the 14th general election on May 9.

This led to a victory for the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan, led by none other than himself, which he did not foretell in the video.

The 92-year-old has since been sworn in as a prime minister again, making him the oldest elected leader in the world.
