Newly-elected Batu MP P Prabakaran, who ran on an independent ticket in GE14, has joined PKR.

"Yes I've joined," Prabakaran told Malaysiakini in a brief exchange .

PKR vice-president Tian Chua, who was disqualified from contesting in GE14, had endorsed Prabakaran as an alternative to Harapan.

In Wednesday's polls, he won Batu with a 24,438-vote majority in a four-cornered fight that featured BN, PAS, and another independent.

At the age of 22, Prabakaran is the youngest member of the new Parliament.

According to new portal Free Malaysia Today, Tian Chua said there will be a celebration over Prabakaran's move to join PKR later today.
