Palestinian NGO congratulates Dr M on Harapan's deserved victory

The Palestinian Cultural Organisation Malaysia (PCOM) congratulated Dr Mahathir Mohamad on being sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister, as well as Pakatan Harapan’s "deserved" victory in the 14th general election.

The Malaysian-based Palestinian NGO in a statement today expressed confidence that the Harapan government would lead Malaysia to unparalleled heights of progress and prosperity.

Noting the Palestinian issue has always enjoyed special attention from Malaysia's decision makers, PCOM hoped that solidarity with Palestine and Palestinian people as well as commitment to the Palestinian struggle will continue to be a top priority and noble calling for the new government.

“Malaysia has proudly maintained a pro-Palestine anti-occupation policy for over six decades, and we hope this position will continue with the new government’s open support for the vital international Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDC) campaign to isolate the Apartheid Israeli occupation regime,” the statement said.

BDC is a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality, which upholds the simple principle that Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as the rest of humanity.

PCOM also hoped that Malaysia will continue to play an active role in defending the identity of Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, especially after the infamous US decision to relocate its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.
