Amanah's Penang youth wing has urged the state's Pakatan Harapan to uphold the coalition's spirit of comradeship and justice among members by distributing exco posts fairly.

Amanah state youth chief Saifullah Abdul Nasir said newly-minted Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow could no longer maintain the status quo as there are now new assemblypersons from Amanah and Bersatu.

"We feel it is important for all component parties to be given a proper place in the state executive council for this new session after the 14th national polls," Saifullah said in a statement.

Nevertheless, Saifullah congratulated Chow on his appointment as the fifth Penang CM and also gave the party's best wishes to all the new state excos who were sworn-in today at Dewan Sri Pinang in George Town.

Amanah and Bersatu won two seats each in Harapan's 37 out of 40 state seats victory on May 9 though both parties lost their parliament seats with DAP and PKR capturing 11 out of 13 parliamentary seats.

In the new exco line-up announced by Chow today, DAP holds eight posts, while PKR gets three.

The deputy chief minister I post is given to PKR's Pinang Tunggal assemblyperson Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, while Perai assemblyperson P Ramasamy retains his DCM II post for the third term.

Asked about the matter, Chow said Penang decided to maintain the status quo as they felt the current line-up is the strongest possible arrangement.

"This is to ensure that in the coming five years, we will perform better, if not better than the previous five years.

"Under the new exco, we can fulfil all our election pledges and not disappoint the people," Chow added, referring to Harapan's 68 election pledges which were announced on April 25 three days before nomination day.

"When it comes to cabinet posts and state allocations, some parties get what they want, some do not [...] it is part of the arrangement in each state," Chow explained.

"We can also say that in some states we won the most seats but we could not get the CM's post [but we do not] and this is the spirit within Pakatan Harapan.

"We move forward when the government is formed," he said.
