Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak simply could not help but point out how he had given up his powers in the aftermath of the general election without fuss.

He, however, lamented how he has not been treated "well", since.

Addressing his supporters in Pekan today, Najib cited critics who had claimed that he would declare an emergency to hold on to power.

"But did I declare an emergency? No, right? I gave up my powers in a good manner.

"But even though I gave up my powers in a good way, I have not been treated well.

"I have received pressure after pressure. I think all of you know, (pressure) on me, my wife, my children, even the homes of my children were ransacked," he said. 

Lamenting how even his grandchild's baby shoes were seized, Najib questioned the relevance of seizing his daughter's wedding presents with 1MDB.

"What's the relevance of wedding gifts with 1MDB? Isn't my daughter fit enough to receive wedding gifts?

"She married to someone from a well-to-do family in Kazakhstan, you can see how they are there.

"They are not from the bottom 40 (B40), they don't get BR1M. What's wrong for my in-laws to gift my daughter?

Najib's lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal yesterday questioned the reason behind the seizure of possessions belonging to Najib's children. 

Citing the Pavilion Residences raid, Harpal stated the two condominium units involved were occupied by Najib’s son and daughter, Ashman Najib and Nooryana Najwa Najib.
