Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan is also against giving safe passage for the top two positions in Umno.
Mohamad, who is the Negeri Sembilan Umno chief, echoed Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin's call for all positions to be contested.
"I personally say the majority of Umno members want all positions to be contested.
"Umno needs new energy and leadership. Let the grassroots members make their decision without any restriction," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times.
Yesterday, Khairy spoke out against leaving the top two positions uncontested.
“No, we can’t have that rule (uncontested positions) anymore in Umno. That proposal has sent a negative signal to the people.
“I don’t agree if there are any positions left uncontested in this next Umno polls. Of course I am happy if there are people supporting me but all positions in Umno must be contested,” he had said.
Previously, some groups within Umno, including Malacca Umno, had proposed that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Hishammuddin Hussein are allowed to fill the top two position uncontested in the upcoming Umno elections.
