Former MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad claimed that his successor Mohd Shukri Abdul has apologised for calling him a “traitor to the country”.

According to reports, Dzulkifli said the apology was sent via a mobile text message.

According to him, Shukri said he regretted using the term against him during an explosive tell-all press conference yesterday.

“I feel at ease now, like a weight has been removed from my chest,” he added.

Dzulkfli, who said that he and his successor consider the matter resolved, described the traitor label as excessive.

Denying that he had ever acted against the interest of the nation, the former MACC chief said he had executed his duties in a responsible and professional manner during his more than two decades in government service.

Dzulkifli had stepped down from his post in the wake of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad accusing the MACC of ignoring widespread corruption and hinting that heads would roll for this.

He is currently back with the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's head is also on the chopping block after Mahathir accused him of concealing evidence with regard to the 1MDB scandal.

During his press conference yesterday, Shukri made a series of explosive allegations and revelations about the 1MDB investigation in 2015.

Among others, he claimed to have received live bullets in the mail, was stalked when abroad and informed that the police wanted to arrest him for conspiring against the government.

His remarks led to various quarters pointing out that it could be prejudicial towards those being investigated in relation to the 1MDB scandal, including former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
