114,128 new voters registered in first quarter of 2018

The Election Commission (EC) has received 114,128 new voter registration applications from eligible citizens and 48,763 applications for change of electoral division from registered voters in the first quarter of 2018 (ST1/2018).

The EC in a statement today said that the Supplementary Electoral Roll Bill (RDPT) would be on display for 14 days from today (May 23) to June 5 at 961 exhibition venues across the country.

The commission said those who applied to register as new voters and registered voters who applied for electoral division change from Jan 1, 2018 to March 31, 2018 are advised to check their names in the DPT ST1/2018 Bill.

"If the applicant finds his name not listed in the DPT ST1 / 2018 Bill, they can make a claim through Form B," the EC said.

For registered voters in any part of the general election area to protest against the entry of the name of any person in DPT ST1/2018 Bill in any one constituency, they could do so by filling in Form C, he said.

The EC said the commission would also show the names of voters to be dropped from the electoral roll during the exhibition period of the DPT ST1/2018 Bill.
