Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng has announced that the government will be paying out the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) next month, before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

In a Twitter posting today, he said this was in accordance to a directive by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Lim added, however, that the handout will be given a different name.

"As directed by Mahathir, BR1M (which will be given a different name) will be paid in June before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Further information will be announced next week," read his tweet.

This will be the second payment in 2018 under the scheme, as the first payments of either RM300, RM400 and RM450 were made by the previous BN administration in February.

Following Pakatan Harapan's win in the 14th general election, Mahathir had instructed that the slogan '1Malaysia' and attendant greetings, introduced by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, would no longer be used.

This includes the 1Malaysia logo used on pins, corporate shirts and at events, as well as the "Salam 1Malaysia" greeting.

Mahathir had also assured that BR1M payments would be retained, but with a focus on those deemed most deserving.
