Perak Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu has issued a reminder against an NGO that forced a convenience store in Manjoi to get rid of their alcohol stock.

Faizal said he understood the sentiments of the NGO, as Kampung Manjoi is one of the biggest Malay villages in Malaysia.

However, he said they should not have acted on their own, and should instead have lodged a complaint with the authorities.

"When the NGO acts on its own, it can raise all sorts of other issues... My advice to the NGO is, if they see things like this, they can lodge a complaint with the government, and let the government deal with it," the menteri besar told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Meanwhile, he also advised other shop operators operating in other Malay villages to be "more sensitive to the feeling of locals."

Besides the Chenderiang state seat, Faizal is also MP for Tambun, under which Kampung Manjoi falls.

The Manjoi assemblyperson is Perak Amanah chief Asmuni Awi, who is also the state religious exco member.

Footage of the incident on Thursday posted by Facebook user Faizal Yus has been viewed over one million times.

In the video, the group is seen to crowd around the convenience store's refrigerators as workers unload alcohol cans into boxes. 

The men in the video are heard urging no one to touch the workers to avoid there being another issue.

Tambun PAS Youth chief Hafez Sabri, who was present during the incident, said in a separate Facebook posting that complaints from locals, including a mosque committee, to the convenience store's management over its sale of alcohol were not entertained.
