A bomb threat received late last night by the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta passed without incident at 1am today, the deadline for the explosive to go off.

An unidentified caller made five telephone calls from 9pm yesterday, claiming that a bomb had been planted in the building and was set to explode at (2am Malaysian time), Bernama reported today.

"The caller said the bomb would go off at 1am (local time) and asked that the embassy be vacated," said Malaysian Ambassador Zainal Abidin Mahamad Zin.

A security guard at the embassy received the calls.

Zainal Abidin said police officers were deployed to guard the entrance to the building while a bomb disposal squad searched the grounds without finding any explosive.

The embassy took all measures according to the standard procedure for such threats, he added.

Several television crews covered the incident from outside the fence of the embassy at Jalan Rasuna Said.
