Dr Mahathir Mohamad was today granted an audience by Kedah ruler Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah at Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar after being appointed as Prime Minister for the second time on May 10.

Mahathir, who arrived at the palace at 1.50pm, had the audience with Sultan Sallehuddin for almost one and a half hours. Also present at the meeting was the sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha Tengku Ariff.

The prime minister’s wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali was also present.

Many people had gathered to greet Mahathir and his wife on their arrival at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport this afternoon, with several of them holding banners with the words 'Selamat Datang Perdana Menteri ke Kedah' (Welcome to Kedah prime minister) and 'Tahniah Tun PM Malaysia ke-7' (Congratulations Tun, Malaysia’s 7th PM).
